I did recently use a paid version of ChatGPT to generate some AI images of scenes from my novels to use for Facebook Ads. For the first month that I ran them, they generated twice as many sales as I had received for the three months prior when I was running FB ads with non AI generated images that included my book cover.

I do agree that I much prefer book covers that are designed by a professonal book illustrator or designer. I am not yet willing to skimp on that. However, AI does seem to be helpful in coming up with new ideas to drive engagement to my ads.

I agree with you, but I can not find the images I want; I have time to write or search images, not both. Worse, I don’t know the area well enough to know if the images are even from the right area! The listings are not always correct. So that leaves us trying to generate images and asking friends if they look right.

OMG Sue I am so with you on this. I have a finished novel about a group of women who are led by a woman dressed as a man for their safety, and by accident, she becomes a gunslinger. (Based on a true story.) I would love a good artist that could pull that off, but no one will touch it.

In the past year I’ve spent at least 150 hours going blind at my computer, scrolling past all the bikini-clad model’s licking a pistol that come up when you search for “woman with a gun.” In despair, I just tested two AI-generated images vs. one photo and one artist-created drawing in FB ads. I’m sorry to report the two AI images did the poorest. So I’m back in photo-search hell until AI improves or some photographers start taking the kind of images I could actually use! Unless you want to donate $2,000 for an original photo shoot??
